A modern-day Aesop might have fun with today’s House Republicans, say with an update of “The Tortoise and the Hare.” Consider that GOP warren of Energizer bunnies, currently doing all it can to ensure it never wins the noble race in which it claims victory is so vital.
Speaker Mike Johnson on Tuesday passed another extension of government funding, giving the House and Senate a few more months to hammer out new spending bills. Ninety-three Republicans voted against the extension (and their new speaker), necessitating Democratic support for final passage. Give the GOP holdouts credit for at least forgoing a motion to depose Mr. Johnson for working with the other side.
